The first scientific workshop, organised within the framework of the ActionMed project, will be held in Piran, Slovenia on Tuesday 12th July. Demetra Orthodoxou will give a presentation entitled ‘DeCyDe-4-ActionMed: Towards common measures for Good Environmental Status using a participatory methodology’. The presentation will outline the method that ISOTECH will implement, based on its DeCyDe-4 methodology, in order to facilitate stakeholders and experts in the Adriatic Sub-region to identify common measures for reaching and maintaining GES in their region. One of the main aims of the ActionMed Project is to facilitate member states in the definition of their programmes of measures for establishing and maintaining Good Environmental Status in European Seas. This will be achieved through the implementation of the dedicatedly developed DeCyDe-4-ActionMed method, in a series of national and sub-regional workshops.
DeCyDe-4-ActionMed will encourage the active participation of stakeholders and decision-makers in the definition of Programmes of Measures for Descriptors 5 (eutrophication), 8 (contaminants), 9 (contaminants in seafood) and 10 (marine litter), and the identification of possible common measures for implementation at a sub-regional level. Three interlinked steps, requiring the active input of the participating stakeholders and decision-makers, will be applied as follows:
- Determination of the main gaps and needs in GES as it relates to the PoMs for each of the aforementioned descriptors
- Identification of possible measures to fill the gaps and needs and to ensure that GES is established and maintained
- Evaluation of the identified measures, using the DeCyDe-4-ActionMed toolbox, based on a predefined list of criteria.
For each of the four Descriptors, the result will be a list of measures, ranked to reflect the views and opinions of the attending stakeholders. In this manner, DeCyDe-4-ActionMed will provide a toolbox for the engagement of stakeholders/key actors, through a truly participatory method. This will in turn elicit support from these stakeholders in the incorporation of the measures as part of their national Programmes.
